Scholarships- Bequests

The Academy of Athens awards scholarships for undergraduate, postgraduate or other specialized studies, from the revenues of bequests that it manages.
The scholarships are awarded following an announcement, which specifies among other things the branches of study, the amount and the duration of the scholarship, the number of scholarships awarded, the selection process and the other terms and conditions provided by the founding act of the bequest and by the pertinent legislation.
A summary of the announcement is published twice (2) in two newspapers, preferably dailies, at least forty-five (45) days before the contest's starting date or on the selection day. The deadline for the submission of applications is fifteen (15) full days before the starting date of the contest as defined in the announcement (or the selection date in the case that there is no contest).
As a rule the selection of the scholarship-holders is based on a written competition, but there are cases where the selection is made on the basis of specific criteria, with no contest. Among the general prerequisites for participation in the selection procedures, is the possession on the part of the candidates, of a High School Certificate (if it concerns a scholarship for undergraduate studies) or of a Degree from a department of a Greek University (if it concerns a scholarship for postgraduate studies), with an overall grade of at least "Very Good".
The candidates must also hold Greek citizenship or be of Greek origin and must be at most 36 years old (except for specific bequests that specify otherwise). The branches of study, with certain exceptions, are defined by the donors, who provide the Academy with funds for the awarding of scholarships.

For more information please contact the Offices of the Academy of Athens on weekdays (86 Solonos str.-5th floor, Ms. Helen Armeni, tel. +30210 3664736).
